AI Generated Web Content Guide

Its A Trap

Written and Published: Updated By Wayne Smith

AI-generated content is a disruptive technology that can greatly improve the speed at which content is created. It has already made itself known for SEO content. One of the patents, which Google owns, relates to checking listings below the listing that was clicked, and if any of the results have a "gain of knowledge" -- moves that listing up. The completeness of AI content, if not for its risk, can create articles that other machine readers like. However AI content lacks a human angle or point of view on the subject. Humans because of their life experience always have a point of view and no two humans have the same life experience. AI only borrows what has already been said from multiple sources and combines them into a single article.

Will AI improve "Quality of Life"

Time is the most precious commodity on earth, everything else is nearly worthless. Everything on the planet is free until someone's labor is added, which gives it value. The labor for content is the work of those who create the content; otherwise it would be worthless, except for the labor of those who created the system that creates the content.

When disruptive technology saves time it improves the quality of life. The rise of superpowers has always followed their use of disruptive technology. However, with AI content it is not clear if it will save time? Time is also spent consuming the content. To improve quality of life the total human time needs to be reduced. Time is everything, our time is limited, and saving time is what we need to improve the quality of life. AI content may be able to do that? But it is not indisputable yet, even though we already have a disruption in the creation process.

So whats the problem / risk?

Google's Generative AI, which is now available to be enabled in search, does the same thing for the top listings in Google. Google can detect AI content in the same manner that it rewards the gain of information results. There is no value provided to Google's users to have multiple AIs all essentially saying the same thing. The rise of AI is threatening to flood search results with duplicate content even if it has a slightly different sentence structure.

The question of AI plagiarism, borrowing, copying, or stealing other content has not yet fully been evaluated either legally or morally. At the least before the content is published it should be checked to see if it did not lift the content from a copyrighted work. The best practice is to use AI to create an article which is replaced by a human using his own words and adding his angle to the content.

Is there a safe harbor?

Generally speaking, most product descriptions are very similar. The features of a product are lifted from the manufacturer's stated features. When it comes to writing content for product descriptions, AI might be considered safe; The manufacturer is not likely to claim a copyright violatation against others stating the features of their product for review or sale ... such usage may also be considered fair use, or a statement of fact which can not be copyrighted. I can not claim a copyright on the statement, "You can touch a touch screen."

When people search for products the search is for where can they find them. Mostly this is a search for a local vendor, and the details about the product are for confirmation that it is what they want. Duplicate content in the description of products is harmless.

When you look at reviews of products, created by humans for humans, they are rarely mirror images. Again people are all unique and have their points of view because their lives are all unique ... the value of the reviews is the human experience about the product, not its features.

For travel content, the basic facts about the destination remain the same but the interest is the angle or point of view ... the adventure of travel or the experience not the facts about the location.

The Perplexity AI is effective at saving time although may have limitations. Overall as an assistant for creating content, it gets a (4 out of 5) at this time. For creating content stand-alone? I have my concerns.

The software is aimed at providing originality scanning for content that may go onto websites or on other publications; With the ideal user being an editor or publisher who needs to check content that has been provided to them.
